Baek Gwang-yeol, a trainer affiliated with Korea Racing Authority's LetsRun Park Busan-Gyeongnam (age 59, Team 1), has achieved 1,000 individual wins in Bukyeong horse racing, becoming the second trainer in history to reach this milestone.
Starting with 999 wins, Trainer Baek Gwang-yeol recorded his 1,000th win on November 8th when his horse ‘Big Musical Star’ won the 5th race (1400m) at LetsRun Park Busan-Gyeongnam. It has been eight years since Trainer Kim Young-gwan set the first milestone of 1,000 wins in Bukyeong horse racing in 2017.
Trainer Baek debuted as a trainer in 2005 with the opening of LetsRun Park Busan-Gyeongnam. He originally started his career in 1988 at Seoul Racecourse as a groom. Beginning from the lowest position as a groom, although he had no special knowledge, he organized a then-novel racehorse pedigree research group, contributing to the development of domestic racehorses.
He is especially known for producing famous horses through customized training based on racehorse pedigree analysis. Starting with ‘Gae-seon Jang-gun,’ who won the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Cup, the final stage of the 2008 Triple Crown, he has produced top domestic stars such as ‘Beolma-ui Kkum,’ the strongest domestic horse, ‘Yeongcheon Ace,’ the Korean Derby winner, and ‘Winner Clear,’ the 2024 Busan Mayor’s Cup champion.
Trainer Baek said, “I don’t usually focus on records, but I have come this far by trying to discover good racehorses and reduce the number of sick horses, even if only by one. I want to work harder and be recognized by fans as a trainer who produces great horses for major races.”
