Yangsan City in Gyeongnam Province will conduct the second on-site evaluation for International Safe City certification over two days, November 14 and 15.
This evaluation is a follow-up procedure to the first on-site evaluation for International Safe City certification held on June 20, and it reflects more thorough preparations made by addressing the issues raised during the initial evaluation.
Yangsan City has been promoting the International Safe City certification project to reduce various accidents and injuries, improve citizens' quality of life, and enhance the perception of safety, thereby creating a comfortable and safe living environment.
The second on-site evaluation will be conducted by three evaluators from the International Safe City Certification Center (ISCCC). Two evaluators will participate via video conference (ZOOM), while one evaluator, Sunny Shanshan Li, a Taiwanese national, will visit Yangsan City to conduct an on-site assessment in person.
The evaluation process will follow the International Safe City certification standards, including comprehensive reporting, injury surveillance systems, traffic safety, fall prevention, violence crime prevention, suicide prevention, and the implementation of best practice cases. The evaluators will ask questions based on these reports, and the city will respond accordingly.
A Yangsan City official stated, “To successfully complete the evaluation, related departments and affiliated organizations such as Yangsan Police Station, Yangsan Office of Education, and Yangsan Fire Station are cooperating to prepare systematically. We ask for your interest in the second on-site evaluation, which will serve as a stepping stone for Yangsan to grow into a safe city that meets international standards.”
They added, “We expect that through this second on-site evaluation, Yangsan City will be certified as an International Safe City and recognized as a safe and livable city. We will prioritize citizens' safety and do our best to establish a sustainable safe city system.”
