Negative Rating Rises by 0.9 Percentage Points to 75.1%
Regarding President Yoon Suk-yeol's national press conference, 7 out of 10 citizens evaluated that they did not sympathize. The opinion that the recent series of allegations explanations were insufficient was even higher.
According to a public opinion poll released on the 11th by Realmeter (commissioned by Energy Economy, conducted nationwide from the 7th to 8th targeting 1,003 people aged 18 and over, 97% wireless, 3% wired, RDD automated response method, with a sampling error of ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level, and a response rate of 3.0%), the public opinion that 'sympathizes' with President Yoon's national address and press conference was 27.3%. The opinion that 'does not sympathize' was 69.8%.
On the 7th, President Yoon apologized through a press conference, saying, "I sincerely apologize to the people," and addressed explanations regarding recent issues.
More people felt the explanations were insufficient. Regarding whether the press conference clarified the involvement of Mr. Myeong Tae-gyun in candidate nomination and First Lady Kim Geon-hee's interference in state affairs, 24.3% responded that it was 'clarified,' while 72.4% believed it was 'not clarified.' Among those who positively evaluated President Yoon's governance, 85.8% thought the explanations were sufficient, while 11.7% considered them insufficient.
In the regular weekly public opinion poll (commissioned by Energy Economy Newspaper, conducted nationwide from the 4th to 8th targeting 2,516 people aged 18 and over, 97% wireless, 3% wired, automated response method, with a sampling error of ±2.0 percentage points at a 95% confidence level, and a response rate of 3.3%), the lowest approval rating since inauguration continued.
President Yoon's approval rating recorded 22.3%, down 0.1 percentage points from the previous week's regular survey, marking the lowest since inauguration. Realmeter evaluated that "it hovered around the low 22% range, similar to last week, showing a slowdown in the decline." However, negative evaluations rose by 0.9 percentage points to 75.1%.
Positive evaluations increased by 7.0 percentage points (from 30.2% to 37.2%) in Daegu-Gyeongbuk (TK) and by 3.8 percentage points (from 16.2% to 20.0%) among people in their 50s.
However, the slight improvement in public opinion after the press conference drew attention. According to daily approval rating trends, President Yoon's approval rating recorded 21.0% on the 5th, setting a daily low since inauguration, but then showed a rebound trend. It recorded 23.0% and 23.2% on the 7th and 8th, respectively.
In the party approval rating survey (commissioned by Energy Economy Newspaper, conducted nationwide from the 7th to 8th targeting 1,003 people aged 18 and over, 97% wireless, 3% wired, automated response method, with a sampling error of ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level, and a response rate of 3.0%), the Democratic Party of Korea's approval rating fell by 3.4 percentage points to 43.7%, the People Power Party rose by 1.3 percentage points to 30.7%, and the Innovation Party increased by 2.0 percentage points to 9.0%.
