Dong-Eui Institute of Technology Emergency Medical Services Department, Department Experience Program Supporting Career Exploration

The Department of Emergency Medical Services at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology (President Kim Young-do) operated a departmental experience program titled “Triage, Rescue, and Emergency Activities for Multiple Casualty Incidents” for high school students who applied to the EMS program during last month’s Open Campus Day.

This Open Campus event was planned to provide local high school students aspiring to become emergency medical technicians with opportunities to understand the profession and explore career paths. Through practice- and experience-centered programs, students were supported to directly experience emergency treatment and rescue activities necessary in actual disaster situations and to understand the role of emergency medical technicians.

The program was conducted in a scenario assuming a multiple casualty incident, where students experienced triage, rescue, and emergency activities.

Participating students practiced the entire process of quickly classifying critical and minor patients at the accident site, performing rescue and transport procedures, and finally handing over patients to the emergency room, thereby experiencing the role of emergency medical technicians. Students were assigned in teams to experience roles within the actual emergency medical system and had the opportunity to strengthen competencies necessary for career planning.

The students who participated said, “Through the realistic emergency medical experience, I was able to concretely understand the role of an emergency medical technician, which gave me confidence in my career path,” and “I realized the importance of triage and rescue and emergency activities, which will greatly help in my future career choices.”

Park Young-su, head of the Department of Emergency Medical Services at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology, stated, “I hope that through this Open Campus, students were able to experience the duties of emergency medical technicians in real environments and gain practical experience necessary for career planning.”

The Department of Emergency Medical Services at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology achieved a 100% pass rate on the national qualification exam for all graduates this year and continues to focus on strengthening major courses tailored to field duties and developing curricula through collaboration with field experts, aiming to cultivate emergency medical professionals.
