"Made the First Move" - Suffered Secondary Harm at Disciplinary Committee
Moved to Adjacent Room Then Jumped... Severe Spinal Fracture

An employee who was a victim of sexual violence at work reportedly jumped out of a building after suffering secondary victimization during the disciplinary committee review process. According to JTBC's 'Sageon Banjang' on the 11th, employee A, affiliated with the Defense Science Research Institute, reported to the company that they were sexually assaulted by colleague B during a business trip in August.

At the time, A had dinner with colleagues that included drinking, and during the meal, since there was no proper place to store the accommodation card key, A asked B to hold onto their card key. After the meal, A received the card key back, but upon realizing that their card keys had been swapped, A encountered B on the way to their room, retrieved their own card, and headed to the accommodation.

However, B followed A to the door and attempted sexual assault, saying, "Since it’s come to this, let’s just sleep together once." B was a married man 12 years older than A, who expressed refusal. B’s demand continued for about 20 minutes, but due to A’s firm rejection, B’s crime was unsuccessful. Afterwards, A reported the incident to the company’s grievance committee, which, based on the victim’s recorded testimony and CCTV footage from the scene, recognized workplace sexual harassment and decided on a one-month suspension for B.

The problem arose during the disciplinary committee held on the 4th, where A reportedly heard secondary victimization remarks from the committee members. According to A’s side, the disciplinary committee chairman said to A, "Are you taking psychiatric medication and experiencing delirium or delusions?" The committee members frequently interrupted A’s statements and accused A as if they were a manipulative woman, saying things like, "You two have a very special relationship," and "A was the one who made the first move." When A protested and showed tears, one committee member removed A to another room, claiming it was interfering with the investigation.

In response, A said, "If the organization doesn’t protect me, I won’t protect myself either," left the meeting room, and jumped out of a window in the adjacent room, falling about 5 meters below. This accident resulted in serious injuries including fractures to the spine, pelvis, wrist, and ankle.

Currently, A’s side has filed complaints with the police against B and the disciplinary committee members. The Defense Science Research Institute told 'Sageon Banjang' that they could not disclose details related to the incident, including whether the disciplinary committee remarks were true, but stated they would cooperate fully with the investigation.
