The visit took place at Hanwha Ocean’s Geoje Shipyard, led by CEO Kim Hee-cheol, and was especially meaningful as it included a direct tour of the actual construction site of the Jangbogo-III Batch-II submarine proposed by Hanwha Ocean for the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project (CPSP).

Hanwha Ocean emphasized the importance of this project and provided Chief Topshee with an opportunity to experience the submarine construction site firsthand. Chief Topshee received vivid explanations from Hanwha Ocean’s management about the design and production process of the Jangbogo-III Batch-II submarine.

Chief Topshee highly evaluated Hanwha Ocean’s excellent technological capabilities and innovative construction expertise while listening to detailed explanations about the design and production process of the KSS-III Batch-II submarine.

Hanwha Ocean stressed to Chief Topshee and his delegation that the Jangbogo-III Batch-II submarine is the only model capable of meeting all the requirements of the Canadian Navy. In particular, they announced plans to support independent submarine maintenance (In-Service Support, ISS) in Canada through technology transfer.

Uh Seong-cheol, Head of Hanwha Ocean’s Special Ship Division, said, “The CPSP project will not only involve delivering submarines built in Korea to Canada but will also mark an important milestone in establishing a long-term partnership that promotes the development of the economies, industries, and maritime defense sectors of both Korea and Canada.”

Recently, Hanwha Ocean submitted a response to the Canadian government’s Request for Information (RFI) to participate in the Canadian submarine project.

At the same time, Hanwha Ocean has been actively cooperating with various prominent local companies on technology collaboration for submarine maintenance and repair. In May, Hanwha Ocean was the only Korean company to participate in CANSEC 2024, Canada’s largest defense exhibition, where it widely promoted the excellence of the Jangbogo-III Batch-II submarine.

Hanwha Ocean is also developing training programs optimized for submarine operation and local submarine maintenance specialists to meet the requirements and operational environment of the Canadian Navy.

Chief Topshee’s visit to Hanwha Ocean’s Geoje Shipyard was especially meaningful as it took place one day before Remembrance Day (November 11), honoring the sacrifices of Canadian soldiers.
