"Both Dangdo and Jeonggwon Will Collapse Together" Warning
Hong Joon-pyo, the mayor of Daegu, warned the People Power Party's 'pro-Han' faction members, saying, "If this situation continues, both the party and the regime will collapse together."
On the 10th, Mayor Hong wrote on Facebook, "Even after suffering a devastating defeat once, you who cannot unite and are once again heading down the path of collapse, I wonder what on earth you are thinking as you act so recklessly in politics. It is pathetic," he said.
He added, "When I saw the group of people fleeing like rats from a sinking ship during Park Geun-hye's impeachment, thinking only of saving themselves, I thought the conservative right wing in this land had no future," and continued, "These days, some of the party leadership's behavior feels like a d?j? vu of the Bareun Party back then, which is extremely bitter."
He went on, "Instead of uniting to overcome the crisis, seeing some party leaders obsessed only with internal attacks for their own personal benefit reminds me exactly of those rats on the sinking ship back then," and pointed out, "Seeing new rats come in and stir up trouble, I cannot shake the feeling these days that this party's future is bleak."
Earlier this month, Mayor Hong harshly criticized the pro-Han faction members on his SNS, saying, "Watching some political ronin who failed to win in the general election and had nowhere to go undermine party unity and criticize the Yoon regime more than the opposition, it feels like witnessing an anomie phenomenon on the eve of Park Geun-hye's impeachment," and urged them, "Stop causing trouble and go under Leader Lee Jae-myung." He added, "Even if you dislike it, it is the regime we established," and wrote, "You, who have contributed nothing to the birth of the Yoon regime and are the original Kim (Geon-hee) faction, have no right to hate the Yoon regime."
Regarding the evaluation by some quarters that he is a 'sharpshooter targeting Han Dong-hoon,' he said, "The term 'sharpshooting' is used only when there is a target worth shooting at. How could I possibly shoot at a junior who is completely innocent?" and added, "(Criticism of Leader Han) is not shooting but merely teaching a lesson not to do something absurd."
