POSCO Pohang Steelworks Fire Fully Extinguished After 5 Hours... 1 Worker Injured

On the 10th, the fire that broke out with an explosion at POSCO Pohang Steelworks was completely extinguished after 5 hours.

The Gyeongbuk Fire Headquarters announced that at 9:20 a.m. that day, the fire at the 3-Pinex Factory of POSCO Pohang Steelworks in Jecheoldong, Nam-gu, Pohang City was fully extinguished.

Earlier, around 4:20 a.m., a fire broke out at the factory accompanied by three explosions.

Upon the fire outbreak, the fire authorities issued a Level 1 response around 4:50 a.m. and deployed about 40 fire trucks and 120 personnel to extinguish the fire, while POSCO's own fire station was also involved in the initial firefighting efforts.

Among the eight workers inside the factory at the time of the fire, one sustained burns and seven evacuated.

The fire authorities suppressed the flames by spraying a large amount of water and declared initial extinguishment around 6:37 a.m., putting out the remaining fire.

The police, fire authorities, and the company will investigate the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage.
