A Glass Bottle Letter Thrown into the Lake Returns to the Sender After 28 Years

A Woman Who Received a Letter Written as a School Assignment in 1998

A story about a message in a bottle thrown into a lake returning to its owner after 26 years has become a hot topic.

On the 7th (local time), the British Daily Mail and others reported the story of Mackenzie Van Eijk, a woman from Ontario, Canada.

Van Eijk threw a note in a glass bottle into Lake St. Clair as a school assignment in 1998. The letter read, "Water has been here since God created the world, and it's interesting to think that someone might be drinking the same water as Jesus." After that, she forgot about the glass bottle.

Recently, a boy named River Vandenberg found the bottle while playing at the lake with his grandmother. It was later revealed that the glass bottle note was found almost in the same place where Van Eijk had thrown it.

Seeing the name of the school Van Eijk attended, ‘St. John the Baptist,’ written on the note, the boy and his grandmother took the letter to the school.

The grandmother said, "Since there was no date on the note, I thought it was written this year or at most last year," and added, "Later, through my grandson's teacher, I found out the letter was written in 1998," expressing her surprise.

The incredible coincidence did not end there. A teacher at the school read the note aloud to the class while telling the story. Scarlet, Van Eijk’s daughter and the author of the note, was in the class and realized it was her mother’s note. Scarlet said, "I was so surprised when I realized it was my mom’s letter that I couldn’t close my mouth," and added, "I took the message in the bottle home and showed it to my mom."

Van Eijk said, "I was very surprised because I had forgotten about the letter," and recalled, "It was one of the first writings printed in the computer lab when the school first opened it."
