The Joint Chiefs of Staff announced that North Korea has been conducting GPS signal jamming provocations around Haeju and Kaesong from the 8th to the 9th. As a result, several of our vessels and dozens of civilian aircraft are experiencing some operational disruptions.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff explained, "Our vessels and aircraft operating in the West Sea region should be cautious of North Korea's GPS signal jamming." They added, "We strongly urge North Korea to immediately cease these GPS provocations and warn that North Korea will be held fully responsible for any subsequent issues arising from this."
North Korea previously carried out GPS signal jamming attacks toward the south in the area around the Northern Limit Line (NLL) in the West Sea from May 29 to June 2 of this year. This occurred shortly after they began sending trash balloons southward for the first time this year.
Since early last month, intermittent attempts at GPS signal jamming have been detected in the inter-Korean border area. The signal output strength was lower compared to the levels in May and June.
