Recently, the 'wedding guest look' of BLACKPINK member Jennie was revealed, sparking a debate about 'Korean-style wedding guest fashion' among overseas K-pop fans. They criticized the Korean custom of wearing dark-colored clothes to make the bride and groom stand out as 'distorted.' They argued that "it is much more natural to wear bright and flashy outfits to celebrate the wedding."

According to multiple online communities on the 6th, Jennie attended a friend's wedding on the 28th of last month. Jennie showcased the epitome of Korean-style wedding guest attire by wearing a white shirt with a black short-sleeved knit over it, paired with black pants. She also carried an ivory-colored bag, wore neutral-toned shoes, and kept her makeup simple. Domestic netizens responded positively with comments such as "The epitome of wedding guest attire," "Neat and pretty," "Good reference for attending weddings," "The clothes are great but her looks make her a troublesome guest," and "She looks this good even at a wedding venue."

However, overseas netizens had different reactions. Especially regarding the group photo from the wedding, where most guests were dressed in black, some commented that it looked more like a funeral than a wedding. Overseas fans said things like "They look like office workers going to work," "Everyone looks gloomy, so it doesn't feel like a party," and "Is that really appropriate attire for a celebration?" There were also voices saying that Korean wedding culture is peculiar. Unlike foreign weddings, which often have a party atmosphere with family or close friends, Korean weddings frequently include colleagues and business associates, requiring formal attire, which some consider distorted.

The reason why wedding guests in Korea tend to dress similarly is that wearing standout outfits can be seen as a nuisance. Previously, actress Lee Yoo-bi caused controversy by wearing a pink two-piece outfit to her younger sister actress Lee Da-in's wedding. At the time, Lee Yoo-bi explained, "It was an outfit my sister personally chose."
