Veteran actor Han Ji-il (76) has been revealed to be experiencing financial difficulties after becoming a basic livelihood security recipient.
Han Ji-il appeared on MBN's 'Exclusive World' broadcast on the 7th to share his current situation. He was once a billionaire with assets worth around 10 billion won, but lost his entire fortune after consecutive failures in businesses such as hotels and film production. He now lives in a rented apartment in Seoul. He also confessed that he had been working various day jobs until recently but has become physically impaired.
Han Ji-il lamented, "Do you know how painful it is when a top star falls flat on the ground?" and added, "There is a reason why stars keep making extreme choices." He continued, "My life has had severe ups and downs. I was born without knowing my father, but I grew up with a silver spoon under the care of my mother and aunt." He said, "I experienced hardships in the United States, enjoyed wealth and glory in my homeland, and also hit rock bottom." Regarding his rented apartment of about 11 pyeong (approximately 36 square meters), he explained, "Since I have difficulty walking, everything is resolved within four or five steps, so it is rather convenient. If I misstep, I could fall, so I think a small house is better."
Han Ji-il said, "I recently went to the United States for a brain MRI. There were concerns that my leg problems might be symptoms of Parkinson's disease or Alzheimer's disease, which scared me." He explained, "Thanks to my dual citizenship, I was able to get tested in the U.S. with the help of an acquaintance. Fortunately, no major issues were found." He added, "I don't know why my body is moving ahead of me like this. Given the situation, I am scared." He revealed, "I was diagnosed with a herniated disc in my lower back two and a half years ago, but I thought it was temporary and did not expect it to last this long." Finally, he said, "I am now preparing for the end." He added, "I worry that I might die alone in this small house and no one will find me. That is my greatest fear."
Meanwhile, Han Ji-il was born in 1947 in Yeonan-gun, Hwanghae Province. He graduated from Inchang High School and Kyung Hee University. He debuted as an advertising model in 1970 and began his screen career starring in the film 'Wind, Cloud.' He gained fame through works such as 'Police Officer,' 'The Maiden Who Went to the City,' 'Gilsotteum,' and 'Aje Aje Baraje.' In the 1990s, he established the video film production company 'Han Cinematown' and produced over 300 films, starting with the hit 'The Cow Lady is Having an Affair.'
