Police Send Producer of 'Fake Video Splicing President Yoon' to Prosecutors

A man who created a fake video by splicing together clips of President Yoon Suk-yeol's speeches during his presidential campaign has been handed over to the prosecution.

On the 8th, the Cyber Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced that a man in his 50s, Mr. A, was sent to the prosecution on the 1st on charges of defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act.


Mr. A is accused of damaging President Yoon's reputation by uploading a video titled "A Virtual Confession Speech by President Yoon" on social networking services (SNS). The fake video features President Yoon making claims about the current administration's incompetence and corruption.


The police have been investigating Mr. A and 11 others involved in distributing the video. Among them, five people, including Mr. A, were referred to the prosecution on charges of defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act, while the remaining five were cleared of charges.
