According to the Joint Chiefs of Staff on the 8th, the military carried out a live-fire surface-to-surface missile drill in the West Sea the previous day.

A unit of the Army Missile Strategy Command launched one Hyunmoo-II series ballistic missile from the firing range in the Anheung area of Chungnam Province. The missile flew approximately 200 km and hit a maritime target to the south. This drill was conducted with the assumption of an enemy ballistic missile provocation, aiming for the military to precisely strike the enemy's provocation origin point using the Hyunmoo surface-to-surface missile.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff stated, "Through this live-fire drill, the military demonstrated a strong will to firmly respond to any provocation from North Korea and showed that it possesses the capability and readiness to precisely strike the enemy's provocation origin point." They added, "Under the solid ROK-US combined defense posture, the military is closely monitoring North Korea's various military activities and maintains the capability and readiness to overwhelmingly respond to any provocation from North Korea."

North Korea has consecutively carried out ballistic missile provocations, including launching the new intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) Hwasong-19 on the 31st of last month and firing multiple short-range ballistic missiles (SRBMs) presumed to be the super-large multiple rocket launcher (KN-25) on the 5th of this month.
