The symposium was structured around five thematic presentations and expert discussions analyzing research and policies in the field of blue carbon (marine ecosystem carbon sinks) to address global climate change and achieve carbon neutrality. The presentations covered environmental changes in seaweed aquaculture due to climate change, the marine environmental excellence of Wando’s seaweed aquaculture, and the chemical cycling of marine biogeochemical substances for seaweed growth.
At the symposium, County Governor Shin Woo-cheol engaged in a lively discussion with eight university professors on the topic of "Sustainability and Carbon Reduction Effects of Wando Seaweed Aquaculture."
Governor Shin Woo-cheol stated, “Discussing the blue carbon effects of seaweed aquaculture and the geopolitical advantages of Wando’s seaweed farming provided a meaningful opportunity to reexamine the future value of our county’s seaweed industry and understand what preparations are necessary for designating our county as a carbon sink.”
