Participation in the 'Busan Marine Data Hackathon Expert Mentoring'
The Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST) will participate in the '2024 Busan Marine Data Hackathon Expert Mentoring' event, held from November 7 to 9 aboard the Busan Panstar Cruise ship (located in Choryang-dong, Dong-gu, Busan), to contribute to nurturing talent in the marine big data field.
Hosted by Busan City and involving various marine and data-related organizations including KIOST, the ‘2024 Busan Marine Data Hackathon’ selected preliminary and final round teams starting October 18. From November 7 to 9, expert mentoring and an awards ceremony will be held at the Busan Port International Exhibition & Convention Center (BPEX) and aboard the Panstar Cruise ship.
At this event, KIOST will provide in-depth mentoring on marine data utilization methods to participants including students, and introduce ways to use data from the coastal big data platform that KIOST has been operating since 2022.
KIOST also participated in the ‘Global Data Hackathon Competition (DIVE 2024)’ held at BEXCO, Busan from October 4 to 6, providing mentoring on the development of a smart collection app for building big data on marine environment guardians. Notably, the team mentored by KIOST (team name: Ivy) won the grand prize (Busan Mayor’s Award) among all participating teams.
Lee Hee-seung, President of KIOST, stated, “Marine big data is a key resource driving the digital transformation and innovation of the marine industry. We will continue to strive to nurture core talents in the marine big data field so that young people both domestically and internationally can analyze and utilize marine data.”
