[US Election 2024]
“The Emperor of Wall Street,” Chairman Jamie Dimon, along with the executives of JP Morgan Chase, congratulated former President Donald Trump on his victory in the November 5 presidential election.
According to CNN, the executives of the largest U.S. bank, JP Morgan Chase, stated on the 6th (local time), "Our company has long worked across the entire political spectrum. We look forward to cooperating with the new administration," expressing their congratulations to President-elect Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance. Dimon, who leads JP Morgan Chase, has been a top candidate for Treasury Secretary from both parties.
Dimon, who holds significant influence on Wall Street, did not officially endorse any candidate in this election. However, earlier this year, he praised the policies of former President Trump, the Republican candidate, leading to speculation that he might have shifted his support to Trump. At the World Economic Forum (WEF) held in Davos, Switzerland, he said, "Taking a step back, Trump was right regarding NATO issues, immigration policies, and economic growth." Former President Trump also mentioned that he was considering Dimon for the position of Treasury Secretary.
However, toward the end of the election, The New York Times (NYT) reported that Dimon privately clearly supports Democratic vice-presidential candidate Kamala Harris and is considering serving as Treasury Secretary or in another role in a Harris administration if the Democrats win. It was also reported that Dimon told colleagues he viewed Trump’s refusal to concede the 2020 election as a disqualifying factor. CNN previously reported, citing sources, that Dimon would not join a second Trump administration.
