Seosan and Yancheng Plant 1 in China Receive SK On's First 'Platinum' Certification
SK On is strengthening its waste management system to practice ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management.
On the 7th, SK On announced that its Seosan plant and China Yancheng Plant 1 received the highest grade 'Platinum' certification for Zero Waste To Landfill (ZWTL) from UL, a global safety and environmental certification organization.
The certification dates are September and November of this year for SK On's Seosan plant and Yancheng Plant 1, respectively. The certification period is one year, and the certification status and grade will be determined annually based on renewal audits.
ZWTL is a system that evaluates the level of waste resource circulation management. UL certifies based on the rate of recycling waste without incineration or landfill at the business site, dividing into three grades: ▲Platinum (99.5%-100%) ▲Gold (95%-less than 99.5%) ▲Silver (90%-less than 95%). Established in 1894, UL is the first safety standards development and certification company in the United States and is recognized as a world-class authority in the environmental field.
This is the first time SK On’s business sites have been awarded the highest grade by UL. In Korea, SK On’s Seosan plant achieved this result two years after being rated Gold in 2022. China Yancheng Plant 1 is the first SK On global business site to obtain the certification, recognized for its excellent waste management system from the first evaluation.
SK On has continuously increased the recycling rate of waste generated annually at its business sites according to the Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) management system. Specifically, SK On has conducted various recycling rate improvement activities, such as analyzing recycling data by waste type and performing simulation work. Going forward, SK On plans to further strengthen waste management at its domestic and overseas business sites.
The SHE management system is SK Group’s management policy to pursue sustainable management by preemptively eliminating harmful factors such as accidents and diseases that may occur during company operations and preventing environmental pollution. SK On is also actively responding to safety, health, and environmental issues at its domestic and overseas business sites based on the SHE system.
Jeon Young-rok, SK On’s SHE manager, said, "This grade evaluation is the result of SK On’s efforts to reduce waste and increase recycling at its business sites," adding, "SK On will continue to carry out various SHE activities and practice ESG management."
