In the early hours of the 6th (local time), former President Trump declared his victory, saying, "It is an honor to be elected as the 47th President of the United States."
According to major foreign media, Nayib Bukele, President of the Central American country El Salvador, also congratulated former President Trump’s victory first among foreign heads of state by posting a photo of Trump on X (formerly Twitter) with the message, "Congratulations to the President-elect of the United States."
Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel, called former President Trump’s return to the White House "the greatest comeback in history" and congratulated him, AFP reported.
Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine, congratulated "President Trump on his impressive election victory" and requested continued support for Ukraine. There are prospects that former President Trump may pressure Ukraine to cede territory or urge it to abandon NATO membership in order to end the Russia-Ukraine war shortly after his inauguration.
Emmanuel Macron, President of France, congratulated "President Trump on his election" and stated, "I am ready to work together as we have over the past four years." Keir Starmer, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, expressed his expectation to cooperate with former President Trump in the future. Giorgia Meloni, Prime Minister of Italy, also extended "the sincerest congratulations to President-elect Donald Trump," continuing a series of congratulatory messages from European leaders. Karl Nehammer, Chancellor of Austria, Petr Fiala, Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, and Andrzej Duda, President of Poland, also congratulated former President Trump on his election victory.
Dick Schoof, Prime Minister of the Netherlands, and Ulf Kristersson, Prime Minister of Sweden, also sent congratulatory messages to former President Trump, expressing hopes for mutual cooperation. Viktor Orb?n, Prime Minister of Hungary, who has publicly supported former President Trump, was the first among European Union (EU) leaders to make remarks suggesting Trump’s victory on this day.
Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, also sent congratulations, saying, "I look forward to resuming our cooperation to strengthen the comprehensive global strategic partnership between India and the United States."
Yoshimasa Hayashi, Chief Cabinet Secretary of Japan, said at a press conference in the afternoon that with former President Trump’s election becoming likely, "We will further evolve broad U.S.-Japan cooperation as a global partner at the core of a free and open international order."
China remained reserved regarding former President Trump’s election victory. Mao Ning, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, gave a principled response at the daily briefing, stating, "Our policy toward the United States is consistent. We will continue to handle China-U.S. relations based on the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation." According to foreign media reports, China had secretly hoped for the election of Democratic Vice President Harris.
