Mayor Lee Hyun-jae Shares Key Achievements and Vision for City Administration, Urges Efforts on Major Issues
On the 6th, Hanam City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Hyun-jae) invited environmental engineer Dr. Kwak Jae-sik to the monthly meeting to give a special lecture on climate crisis response and carbon neutrality under the theme "The Earth is Fine, We Are the Problem."

Dr. Kwak explained how climate change affects our society and conveyed various information about the awareness and response measures citizens should have regarding the climate crisis.
Dr. Kwak stated, “Responding to the climate crisis is an important task that our society must solve collectively,” adding, “Through this lecture, people should be alert to the seriousness of climate change and recognize it not as a vague issue of environmental protection but as a realistic problem closely related to everyday life.”
After the lecture, a Q&A session was held where Dr. Kwak candidly shared his stories with the citizens, bringing smiles to the audience.
Additionally, Mayor Lee Hyun-jae of Hanam shared the city’s major achievements and vision and urged the staff to focus on key administrative issues.
Mayor Lee said, “Hanam City has risen as Korea’s top walking destination by hosting the ‘1st Hangang Harmony Walking Festival’ and organizing the ‘Hanam Misa Hangang Sand Road and Wirye Riverside Walking Festival.’ I appreciate the efforts of the staff who are dedicated to regular maintenance for these events.”
He also announced that the Goodbye Busking performances held last October were a great success.
Mayor Lee introduced the achievements, saying, “This year, 76 busking performances by 198 teams were held, attracting over 35,600 spectators, which is more than 10,000 additional viewers compared to last year.”
He shared that “the large Hanam balloon installed at Misa Lake Park has become a popular spot for taking certification photos, greatly contributing to enhancing the city’s branding image.”
Mayor Lee emphasized, “The K-Star World project, a station complex development underway on Misa Island, is currently in the detailed master plan establishment phase. I hope the staff will work together to help Hanam City leap forward as a global K-Culture hub city.”
He also revealed that following the Presidential Award for Comprehensive Civil Service Evaluation in February, Hanam City was the first to be certified by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety as a ‘National Happiness Civil Service Office,’ urging staff to communicate in various ways and maintain a proactive attitude for citizen convenience.
Meanwhile, the monthly meeting proceeded in the order of △ awarding commendations (to exemplary residents, citizens, and blood donation contributors including public officials) △ delivering the mayor’s key policies and remarks △ and the special lecture on carbon neutrality.
