Former U.S. President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump declared victory in the 47th U.S. presidential election. He secured a de facto win by winning not only the battleground states of Georgia and North Carolina but also Pennsylvania, which was one of the most crucial states.
On the morning of the 6th, around 2:30 a.m. Eastern Time, the day after the election, Trump delivered a speech to supporters gathered at the Palm Beach Convention Center in Florida, where his residence is located. He said, "I want to thank the American people for giving me the honor of being your 45th and 47th president." He added, "We will help heal our country," and stated, "We will fix our borders and fix everything about our country."
He continued, "There is a reason we made history tonight," and said, "I will fight for you, your families, and your future." Trump said, "This is a magnificent victory for the American people and will allow us to make America great again." On this day, Trump’s speech stage was shared with his wife Melania, family members, Vice Presidential candidate Senator JD Vance and his spouse, and campaign staff, who greeted the supporters together.
He declared, "I will not rest until we build a strong, safe, and prosperous America that our children and you deserve. The true golden age of America is coming." He also announced that the Republican Party had regained the majority in the Senate through this election.
Trump also expressed gratitude to Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, who supported his campaign both materially and morally. He said, "We have a new star. A star named Elon has been born. He is an amazing person."
According to the Associated Press, as of 2:40 a.m. that day, Trump had secured 267 of the 270 electoral votes needed for victory out of the total 538 electoral votes. In his speech, Trump predicted that when all states finish counting, he would secure at least 315 electoral votes. The New York Times forecasted that Trump would secure 312 electoral votes and raised his chances of winning to 95%. Conservative-leaning media Fox News and U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson (Republican) had already declared Trump the winner of the presidential election.
Meanwhile, Vice President Harris was initially expected to watch the vote count at her alma mater Howard University on the same day, but reportedly did not appear at the election night party as planned. Cedric Richmond, co-chair of the Harris campaign, told supporters gathered at Howard University that Vice President Harris would not give a speech that night but would speak the following day.
