Jeon Nam-do Councilor Choi Seon-guk Points Out... Only 3 of 18 Types Are Functional
Some Are Broken and Unusable... Urgent Improvement Needed
It has been pointed out that a significant portion of the research and testing equipment owned by the Green Energy Research Institute, a specialized research institution in the field of renewable energy in Jeonnam Province, has exceeded its durability period and urgently needs improvement.
Choi Seon-guk, a member of the Jeonnam Provincial Assembly (Democratic Party of Korea·Mokpo 1), raised concerns about the management status of outdated equipment and demanded the establishment of countermeasures during the administrative audit of the Green Energy Research Institute held on the 5th.
Assemblyman Choi stated, “The Green Energy Research Institute plays a pivotal role in discovering energy industry leading models through the distribution of renewable energy such as solar power, offshore wind power, and hydrogen in Jeonnam, as well as research and development of new energy industries, promoting corporate growth and commercialization technology development. However, among the 18 types of equipment owned by the institute, 15 types, accounting for 83.3%, have already exceeded their durability period, and some of these are unusable due to malfunctions,” he pointed out.
He particularly urged improvements regarding the fact that the equipment utilization rate and operational revenue of the Green Energy Research Institute are virtually nonexistent.
Assemblyman Choi emphasized, “Although the Green Energy Research Institute is an institution that will lead the future new energy industry, investment in new growth industries is woefully insufficient. A foundation to lead Jeonnam’s renewable energy industry must be established through systematic management of research equipment and securing budgets.”
He continued, “Recently, a meeting was held at Jeonnam Technopark to explore ways to jointly utilize research facility equipment within the province. However, the Green Energy Research Institute, a subordinate organization of the same province, was unable to participate. Strengthening the cooperative system for integrated management of research assets is urgent,” he demanded.
Assemblyman Choi also strongly criticized the equipment owned by Jeonnam Technopark.
He stated, “It has been confirmed that among the 273 pieces of equipment owned by Jeonnam Technopark, 111 have exceeded their durability period, and recently, the sale of functioning equipment has led to a police investigation.”
He added, “Jeonnam Technopark is in the media spotlight for selling equipment that is still in good condition, while the Green Energy Research Institute is lacking even basic equipment. With such management conditions, it is doubtful whether they can lead the future energy industry,” he emphasized.
