Incheon Airport Corporation Partners with Railroad Technology Institute to Drive "Shuttle Train Innovation"

Promotion of Parts Localization and Technology Development

Incheon International Airport Corporation has partnered with the Korea Railroad Research Institute to further improve the shuttle train connecting Terminal 1, Terminal 2, and the boarding concourse.


On the 6th, Incheon International Airport Corporation announced that it signed a "Business Agreement for Mutual Cooperation in Innovative Research and Development of the Incheon Airport Shuttle Train" with the Korea Railroad Research Institute the day before.


Under this agreement, both organizations will actively collaborate on the localization research and development, demonstration, and introduction of digital technologies for the core components of the Incheon Airport shuttle train. In this process, the Korea Railroad Research Institute will conduct research and development, while the corporation plans to provide a testbed for demonstration.


Additionally, based on this agreement, the corporation plans to continuously promote ▲innovative research and development ▲introduction of digital technologies ▲advancement of operational technologies.


The Incheon Airport shuttle train is a key facility that transports passengers through the underground tunnel connecting Terminal 1, the boarding concourse, and Terminal 2. It is the first in Korea to adopt an unmanned automatic operation rubber-tired system and operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. As of last year, approximately 20 million passengers used it annually. Since its opening in 2008, it has achieved a continuous operation record of 140,000 hours and 6 million kilometers in distance.


Lee Hak-jae, President of Incheon International Airport Corporation, said, "We plan to strengthen Incheon Airport's competitiveness by innovating the shuttle train's operation method through the introduction of advanced digital technologies."
