Prosecutors Conduct Search and Seizure at Hyundai Construction Over Alleged Bribery to Indonesian Officials

The prosecution has conducted a search and seizure at the headquarters of Hyundai Construction in connection with allegations that a bribe of 550 million KRW was delivered to a high-ranking official of the Indonesian government to suppress residents' complaints during the construction of Unit 2 of the Cirebon coal-fired power plant.


The International Crime Investigation Division of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Hong Yong-hwa) sent prosecutors and investigators to Hyundai Construction's headquarters in Jongno, Seoul, on the morning of the 6th to seize related accounting books, PC hard drives, and mobile phones of involved parties.


According to the prosecution, some executives and employees of Hyundai Construction are suspected of offering bribes to high-ranking officials of the relevant country in connection with overseas construction projects they secured. The prosecution plans to comprehensively analyze the seized items and summon related individuals for investigation.


Earlier, on the 21st of last month, Hyundai Construction was also subjected to a forced investigation by the Anti-Corruption Investigation Division 3 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Lee Seung-hak). This was related to allegations of 'LS Securities executives' misuse of insider information.' Hyundai Construction was identified as the construction company involved in a real estate development project related to LS Securities executive A, who is suspected of violating the Capital Markets Act by privately using information.
