The Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) announced on the 6th that it has appointed five external experts as the 7th term Ombudsmen.

The 7th term Ombudsmen consist of An Suhyeon, Dean of the Graduate School of Law at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (Consumer), Na Sangyong, Chief Attorney at Law Firm Yulwoo (Banking), Gu Jeonghan, Senior Research Fellow at the Korea Institute of Finance (Small and Medium Enterprises and Low-income), Park Sojeong, Professor at Seoul National University Business School (Insurance), and Kim Jeonghun, Outside Director and Public Interest Representative at Korea Exchange (Financial Investment). Their term is two years.

The FSS Ombudsmen perform the role of monitoring the FSS's operations from an independent third-party perspective and recommending institutional improvements. The FSS will actively support the activities of the Ombudsmen and will endeavor to reflect their recommendations as much as possible in future operations.

Meanwhile, the 6th term Ombudsmen actively engaged in field-centered activities such as listening to difficulties in the financial sector and identifying areas for institutional improvement. During their term, they reviewed a total of 26 consumer protection and regulatory improvement tasks, recommending improvements for 12 of them. A notable example is identifying insurance companies' underwriting guidelines for long-term organ donors and improving them to prevent unfair underwriting discrimination.
