"Providing Expiration Dates and Effortless Cooking"... Chef Im Heewon Also Impressed by 'Samsung Bespoke AI Kitchen'

Cooking Show for 'Samsung Bespoke AI Kitchen' Held on the 6th

On the 6th, a 'Samsung Bespoke AI Kitchen' cooking show was held at a kitchen studio in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul. Chef Lim Heewon, who appeared on the recently popular cooking entertainment program 'Black and White Chef: Cooking Class War,' showcased four unique dishes using Bespoke AI kitchen appliances. On this day, Samsung Electronics demonstrated an integrated service that connects kitchen appliances such as refrigerators, induction cookers, and ovens through its Internet of Things (IoT) platform, 'SmartThings,' allowing the devices to exchange data and experience AI functions.

Chef Lim began the cooking show by placing the prepared ingredients into the 'Bespoke AI Family Hub' refrigerator. This refrigerator automatically recognizes ingredients through the 'AI Vision Inside' feature, records the date of storage, and registers them in the food list. Then, he selected seafood nearing its expiration date along with newly added paprika and tomatoes to demonstrate the automatically recommended recipes.

Following the step-by-step recipe displayed on the refrigerator's touchscreen, cooking instructions were sent to the 'Bespoke Cooker Oven' to complete the dish 'Seafood Tomato Kimchi.' During this process, the 'Bespoke AI Induction' and Cooker Oven automatically set the optimized temperature and time according to the refrigerator's recommended recipe, enabling users to easily complete various dishes simultaneously without separately managing cooking times.

Next, Chef Lim searched for a pot rice menu using Bixby, selected 'Mushroom Nutritious Rice,' and used the 'Bespoke Water Purifier' to dispense the appropriate amount of water, 270mL, before starting cooking on the Bespoke Induction. He then received a recipe recommendation for 'Grilled Pork Neck and Aged Kimchi Salsa' and demonstrated cooking the pork neck using the oven grill. Following the step-by-step recipe, "Wash 1/4 portion of aged kimchi under running water and drain, then julienne," he showcased a smart cooking process using Samsung AI kitchen appliances.

Chef Lim also demonstrated the use of the newly introduced 'Odor Care Kimchi Container' in this year's 'Bespoke AI Kimchi Plus' for cooking aged kimchi. The Odor Care Kimchi Container minimizes the escape of kimchi odors outside the container by releasing carbon dioxide generated during fermentation through a gas valve and gas absorption filter.

He also showed cooking by taking photos of beets and avocados with the 'Samsung Food' app and receiving a recommended beet sashimi recipe he developed himself. The 'Vision AI' technology of 'Samsung Food' not only recognizes ingredients in the photo simultaneously to recommend recipes but also automatically saves the photographed ingredients to the food list for convenient ingredient management.

Chef Lim said, "From ingredient management in the refrigerator to the cooking process using the induction and oven, everything was smoothly connected through SmartThings and AI functions, making the cooking process much easier than usual." He added, "Using Samsung Bespoke AI kitchen appliances, even beginners can easily enjoy a variety of dishes."

At the experience zone, the 'AI Boiling Detection' feature was introduced, where a vibration sensor built into the induction cooker detects when water is boiling and automatically adjusts the heat. The 'Smart Control' feature was also showcased, allowing users to remotely turn off the induction power via the SmartThings app even when away from home.

Additionally, the 'ScanKeep' feature of the Bespoke AI Kimchi Plus was introduced. ScanKeep allows consumers to scan the barcode on purchased kimchi packaging with SmartThings, which then sets the most suitable storage mode for the kimchi brand and type.

Using the 'Brewer Kit,' a drip coffee making kit exclusively for the Bespoke Water Purifier released on the 5th, a function to make delicious drip coffee at home was demonstrated. When the coffee bean packaging barcode is scanned in the SmartThings app, a recipe optimized for the best taste is automatically sent to the Bespoke Water Purifier, enabling extraction of the optimal coffee for each brand's beans. Samsung Electronics also collaborates with specialty coffee bean brands 'Momos Coffee' and 'Pourer' to provide barista-customized recipes tailored to each brand's coffee.

Lee Jungjoo, Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics' DA Division, who attended the event, explained, "Applying AI to appliances naturally improves their original performance and enables capabilities that were previously impossible. There are three core technologies: acquiring data, processing and understanding data through AI, and delivering meaningful services or functions to consumers based on that understanding."

He added, "Samsung kitchen appliances have evolved beyond applying AI functions to individual products to become an AI kitchen solution connected and automatically adjusted on SmartThings. Currently, SmartThings connects a total of 24 million devices, including not only our products but also competitors' products, and we will continue to introduce solutions that provide even more finely tuned experiences through AI Vision, AI Voice, and data intelligence."
