Positive Reviews from Netizens on 'Subway' Product Advertisement
Chef An Seong-jae, who appeared as a judge on the Netflix cooking survival program 'Heukbaek Yorisah' (Black and White Chef) and received praise, attracted attention with his honest advertising remarks. Unlike typical commercials, Chef An maintained the strict and meticulous demeanor he showed throughout the show.
On the 4th, an advertisement video featuring Chef An was uploaded on the official YouTube channel of the sandwich franchise 'Subway.' The video is an ad for Subway's new product, the 'Anchang Beef Collection,' where Chef An tastes and evaluates Subway's menu just like he did on Heukbaek Yorisah.

First, Chef An appears in the video asking, "What menu have you prepared today?" After taking a bite of the Anchang beef sandwich, he commented, "For a franchise-made sandwich, this is quite satisfying." He added, "At this price and quality, I would occasionally buy it." The video surpassed 600,000 views within just one day of being posted.
The advertisement video became a hot topic among netizens. Unlike typical food commercials that heap praise on the product, it was noted that Chef An's strictness, as shown on Heukbaek Yorisah, was revealed without any dilution. Comments on the video included, "It doesn't feel like forced praise," "It actually feels more trustworthy," "It preserves Chef An's dignity and makes Subway more credible. The advertising strategy was well done," "This straightforward ad is more appealing than lengthy false advertisements," and "I like seeing strict Chef An even in the commercial," among other positive reviews.
Meanwhile, Chef An is the owner chef of 'Mosoo,' Korea's first Michelin 3-star restaurant. As Heukbaek Yorisah gained popularity domestically and internationally, foreign media such as CNN also spotlighted him. CNN explained that he immigrated to California, USA, at the young age of 13 and grew into a renowned chef, stating, "After receiving one Michelin star at the fine dining 'Mosoo San Francisco' in 2015, he returned to Korea and quickly rose to stardom by earning three stars."
