Gyeonggi-do Assigns Detailed Addresses Including 'Dong, Floor, Unit' to 3,890 Vulnerable Households This Year A Gyeonggi Province public official is attaching detailed address labels to the residences of vulnerable households within the province. Provided by Gyeonggi Provincial Government

Gyeonggi Province assigned detailed addresses to 3,890 buildings housing vulnerable households this year, covering a total of 27,297 households.

The detailed address assignment project for vulnerable households was initiated by Gyeonggi Province in February of this year, becoming the first in the nation to do so. This project targets welfare recipients and vulnerable areas such as jjokbangchon (small-room villages) prone to fires, following an incident in September last year in Jeonju, Jeollabuk-do, where a woman in her 40s died after not receiving welfare support.

A detailed address refers to the ‘dong (building section) · floor · ho (unit number)’ information displayed after the building number.

In multi-family housing such as one-room units where dong, floor, and ho are not registered in the building register, detailed addresses cannot be used as legal addresses, causing inconveniences such as loss or return of mail. Additionally, in case of fire, it may be difficult to quickly identify the location.

Gyeonggi Province collaborated with welfare departments to select target individuals by city and county, and proceeded to assign detailed addresses to all buildings where the targets reside. After on-site surveys, appropriate dong, floor, and ho designations were assigned, and detailed address signboards were installed to facilitate easy location identification.

Im Junbeom, head of the Gyeonggi Province Address Information Team, stated, "Through the detailed addresses assigned to vulnerable households this time, the social safety net has been further strengthened. Since addresses greatly impact the safety of residents, we will actively promote more precise detailed address assignments to prevent welfare blind spots."
