Hong Joon-pyo, Mayor of Daegu, evaluated Lee Jun-seok, a member of the Reform New Party, comparing Han Dong-hoon, leader of the People Power Party, to Won Gyun as "timely."

On the 5th, Mayor Hong said on his Facebook, "I think Lee Jun-seok's comparison that 'even though King Seonjo was a jealous and foolish monarch, he did not reappoint Won Gyun, who suffered a crushing defeat at the Battle of Chilcheonryang,' is timely." He added, "The Lee Jun-seok we forcibly ousted won twice in the presidential and local elections, didn't he? From that perspective, we are even more foolish than King Seonjo. We need to reflect."

Earlier, Lee had compared President Yoon Seok-yeol to King Seonjo during the Imjin War and Han Dong-hoon, leader of the People Power Party, to Won Gyun on his Facebook the day before.

He said, "King Seonjo, who was originally suspicious and dismissed and checked people, deserves criticism, but that does not mean Won Gyun, who ruined everything at the Battle of Chilcheonryang, can avoid blame by criticizing King Seonjo," pointing out conflicts within the party and government. He continued, "Even if you make excuses here and there after disastrously losing the general election and turn the blame around, the memory of Chilcheonryang, where everything was lost due to overconfidence, will not be erased."

Lee added, "During his time as Minister of Justice, he did not utter a word about the Deutsche Motors investigation, but these days he is making strange remarks as if detached from reality. He should properly handle stories like 'What if magnolias bloom?' and the third-party special prosecutor," and warned, "If he keeps making empty promises in politics to avoid crises and repeatedly breaks his word, unfortunate things will happen."

In another post, Lee criticized, "As soon as I left for an overseas trip with the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Won Gyun team and the Seonjo team in the People Power Party took the opportunity to blame everything on Lee Jun-seok," adding, "It seems the poor response worse than a sea anemone in the Blue House is moving to the party." He also pointed out, "It is pathetic that they call talking about things they couldn't say while in Korea a strategy just ten days after leaving on a trip."
