Wando Weightlifting Prospect Achieves 'Korean Record' in Men's 89kg Category

4 Participants from Middle and High School Divisions Win Gold Medals

Wando Office of Education announced on the 5th that a Wando athlete set a new Korean record in the men's weightlifting 89kg category at the '49th Student Comprehensive Sports Competition' held across Jeonnam Province.


At this competition, Kim Siyoon (73kg), Jeong Yeonwoo (81kg), and Park Geonmin (103kg) from Wando Middle School, along with Kim Taeyang (89kg) competing in the high school division, all won first place and earned gold medals.

In particular, Kim Taeyang lifted 132kg in the snatch event, setting a new Korean record in the youth 89kg category. In the same event, middle school athletes Choo Yeonseong (96kg) and Park Sanggyu (73kg) also took second place, maintaining the title of Jeonnam's strongest.


Jang Seongin, the weightlifting team coach, said, "I am proud that all the students cheered together and did their best. Achieving a Korean record is a great accomplishment with significant meaning."


Lee Cheolyoung, the superintendent of education, stated, "We support the student athletes as they strive for their dreams. Regardless of the results, I am grateful to the educational family who worked hard to guide them, and we will continue to do our best to support students' sports and academics."
