Yeoju Museum in Yeoju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Chung-woo) announced on the 5th that it is holding a special exhibition titled "Hangeul, Shining Through Children's Songs." The city is also operating various related experiential programs.
This special exhibition will run until March 30, 2025, and a permanent program allowing visitors to enjoy children's songs through various experiences is also being operated. Visitors can express scenes from children's songs through paper folding or play Hangeul children's songs such as "Santokki" (Mountain Rabbit), "Bihaenggi" (Airplane), and "Seollal" (Lunar New Year) directly using a punched music box.
There is also an activity where visitors can color or design papers expressing children's song titles in Hangeul typography. At the entrance of the exhibition, activity sheets are provided where visitors can draw the names of exhibition artifacts in one stroke following the order of initial, medial, and final consonants, allowing them to understand the principle of Hangeul letter formation, Hapja-hae (合字解), while viewing the exhibition.
On the 6th, a program called "Our Baby's First Children's Songs" will be held for users of the childbirth preparation class at Yeoju City Health Center. Pregnant women participating in the program will tour the exhibition to discover children's songs they want to listen to with their soon-to-be-born babies, and make wooden music boxes that play the melody of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star," adapted into Hangeul by children's literature author Yoon Seok-jung, creating special memories with their fetuses.
On the 23rd and December 21st at 2 p.m., a special program called "Hand Play Children's Song Class" will be held for families residing in Yeoju City. Parents who apply will learn fun hand play movements matching children's songs with their children in pairs and make wooden music boxes that play the melody of "Jingle Bells," adapted into Hangeul by musician Ahn Byung-won, in celebration of the upcoming Christmas.
The permanent program is conducted on-site, and applications for the special programs will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis through the Yeoju Museum website at 10 a.m. on the 12th and December 3rd.
A museum official said, "This program was prepared to stimulate visitors' imagination and creativity through various experiential activities that visually reinterpret the musical elements of children's songs, making the exhibition more enjoyable," adding, "Yeoju Museum will continue to evolve as a cultural space that all generations from fetuses to adults can enjoy together."
