Until the 30th, 180 million KRW settlement
"Claims impossible after 5-year statute of limitations"
Nam-gu, Gwangju City (District Mayor Kim Byeong-nae) will conduct a comprehensive review of local tax unclaimed refunds by the 30th of this month to return unclaimed refund amounts to taxpayers that have arisen during the local tax payment process.
According to Nam-gu on the 5th, as of the end of last month, there are 3,942 cases of unclaimed local tax refunds amounting to approximately 180 million KRW that taxpayers have not claimed.
The reasons for unclaimed refunds include adjustments in national tax corrections and legal amendments, or refund amounts generated during vehicle ownership transfers or scrapping processes. There are also cases arising from local income tax special collection settlements or taxpayer errors.
The district sent notices to taxpayers' households last month containing information on how to apply for refunds. When applying for a refund, applicants must provide the refund number, name, bank name, account number, and contact information, and the refund will be paid within one week.
A Nam-gu official stated, “Since the right to claim refunds expires five years after the refund resolution date, we urge taxpayers to apply for their refunds during the local tax unclaimed refund comprehensive review period to ensure they receive their money back.”
