Dongjak-gu, Seoul (Mayor Park Il-ha) announced on the 5th that it will strengthen the operation of the ‘Wheelchair OK! Disability-Friendly Hair Salons’ created for severely disabled people with mobility difficulties to use conveniently.

Earlier, in April, the district signed business agreements with 15 hair salons in the area and designated one salon per neighborhood as a disability-friendly hair salon, starting operations in July. To improve services, the district conducted on-site monitoring from September to October and decided to expand support from this month, including increasing subsidies for salon use, introducing augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), and producing QR codes to enhance accessibility.

The district will increase the subsidy for severely disabled residents registered in the district who use disability-friendly hair salons from 10,000 KRW once a month to 20,000 KRW once a month. Additionally, to facilitate smooth communication between disabled customers and salon operators, the district will distribute AAC materials and provide training on their use to improve customer service quality and user satisfaction.

Along with disability-friendly hair salons, the district will produce the ‘Barrier-Free Our Dongjak Map’ and QR codes containing location information of various disability-friendly convenience facilities in the area to provide accurate customized information.

The disability-friendly hair salons in the district are one per neighborhood: ▲ Ijin Hair (Noryangjin 1-dong) ▲ Eomcheongnan Hair Salon (Noryangjin 2-dong) ▲ Lee Chul Hair Kerker (Sangdo 1-dong) ▲ Yoon Hair (Sangdo 2-dong) ▲ Meorina (Sangdo 3-dong) ▲ Salon de 90 (Sangdo 4-dong) ▲ Jiyoon Hair Mode (Heukseok-dong) ▲ White Hair Shop (Sadang 1-dong) ▲ J One Hair (Sadang 2-dong) ▲ Beauty Master Club (Sadang 3-dong) ▲ Hair Jun (Sadang 4-dong) ▲ Won Hair Salon (Sadang 5-dong) ▲ Ant Hair Shop (Daebang-dong) ▲ Lee Hoon ALL 30000 Hair Salon (Sindaebang 1-dong) ▲ Meoriga Hair (Sindaebang 2-dong).

For more details regarding the use of disability-friendly hair salons, inquiries can be made at the respective neighborhood community centers or the Disability Welfare Division. The district plans to improve convenience for the disabled by activating the operation of disability-friendly hair salons through cooperation with the Seoul Metropolitan Southern Disabled Welfare Center and the Disability Convenience Promotion Technology Support Center.

Mayor Park Il-ha said, “We plan to continuously strengthen support for disability-friendly hair salons to provide non-discriminatory hair services to disabled people with mobility difficulties,” adding, “We will continue to implement various policies to promote the welfare of disabled people and improve their quality of life.”
