Trump: "If Mexico Fails to Stop Illegal Immigration, Tariffs Up to 75% Will Be Imposed"

"Phone Call with Mexican President on First Day in Office"

With the U.S. presidential election just one day away on the 5th, former President Donald Trump, the Republican candidate, warned on the 4th (local time) that if the Mexican government does not stop illegal immigrants entering the United States, tariffs of up to 75% will be imposed.

Trump: "If Mexico Fails to Stop Illegal Immigration, Tariffs Up to 75% Will Be Imposed"

At a rally in North Carolina, one of the battleground states, Trump stated, "We will stop the invasion of criminals coming into our country."

The criminals he referred to are immigrants illegally crossing the southern border adjacent to Mexico and entering the United States.

Trump said, "On my first day in office, I will call the President of Mexico first," adding, "If they do not stop criminals and drugs from entering our country, I will notify them that a 25% tariff will be imposed on all Mexican products entering the United States." He continued, "The chance of this proposal succeeding is 100%," warning that if the 25% tariff is ineffective, it will be raised sequentially to 50%, and then to 75%.

At the rally, Trump also displayed an image comparing the number of illegal immigrants at the time of his 2021 departure from office with the surge in illegal immigrants under the Joe Biden administration.

He emphasized, "The United States is currently occupied by (illegal immigrants), but on the day I take office, that will no longer be the case," and added, "November 5th will be the day of America's liberation, and on the first day, I will launch the largest criminal deportation program in history."

Trump also stated that he would invoke the 'Alien Enemies Act' enacted in 1789 to dismantle all immigrant criminal organizations, and that anyone who returns to the U.S. or kills an American would face 10 years imprisonment or the death penalty, respectively.
