Councilor Seo Im-seok: "Gwangju Tourism Corporation Audit Materials Inadequate" Seo Im-seok, Gwangju City Council Member

As the Gwangju City Council began its administrative audit, it faced difficulties from the very first day amid controversy over Gwangju Tourism Organization submitting falsified and fabricated documents following inadequate data submission.

The Administrative and Autonomy Committee of the Gwangju City Council raised their voices on the 4th during the first audit of 2024, stating that the data submitted by the Tourism Organization could not be trusted.

Seo Im-seok, a city council member (Democratic Party, Nam-gu 1), criticized the data submitted by the Gwangju Tourism Organization, saying, “If the requested data by council members is missing or insufficient, they should acknowledge it as is and supplement it. Instead, they fabricated data that did not exist and failed to even report incorrectly recorded data to the relevant standing committee members,” and questioned, “How can we trust the data submitted by the Tourism Organization?”

In some cases, the Tourism Organization used different units within the same table in the administrative audit materials, and even submitted tables containing two different totals. Furthermore, it was revealed that the DRT (Demand Responsive Transit) city tour bus data was either fabricated or deliberately altered.

In particular, the barrier-free city tour bus managed by the Tourism Organization has not operated at all since its purchase in 2022 for 400 million KRW, as they have been unable to find a driver. Even after more than two years since the purchase, the bus remains unused and abandoned in the garage.

Council member Seo questioned, “Whether the city tour bus is truly an effective project is doubtful,” and criticized, “If the Tourism Organization deems the project ineffective, one option could be to simply not allocate the project budget.”
