Collaboration with Robot Research Institute KIRO
Daedong Group has established a specialized robotics subsidiary to actively promote its agricultural and industrial artificial intelligence (AI) robot business.
Daedong Mobility, Daedong Group's smart mobility company, announced on the 4th that it has formed a joint venture (JV) with the Korea Institute of Robot Convergence (KIRO), a specialized robotics research institute, to establish Daedong Robotics, an intelligent autonomous robot company, adding it as an affiliate.

To foster the robotics business at the group level, the parent company Daedong opened a Robotics Center last year in collaboration with KIRO to conduct joint research on core robotics technologies and commercialization. In the first half of this year, it also established Daedong AI Lab, a company specializing in AI robot software. Going further, to fully launch the robotics business, Daedong Mobility has now established Daedong Robotics as its subsidiary together with KIRO.
The inaugural CEO of Daedong Robotics is Gam Byeong-woo, head of Daedong’s Product Planning Division, who has led the development of Daedong’s agricultural machinery, mobility, and robotics for over 20 years. The robotics development and commercialization speed will be accelerated by the combined workforce of Daedong Mobility, the group’s robotics personnel, and researchers from Daedong and KIRO Robotics Center.
Initially, the company plans to launch agricultural robots necessary for cultivating vegetables, fruits, and other crops currently being developed within the group, aiming to reduce labor time and increase agricultural productivity by replacing human labor. Additionally, similar to how tractors increase added value by connecting implements, Daedong Robotics will commercialize multipurpose agricultural robots equipped with various work modules such as transport, pest control, harvesting, weeding, and spraying. Daedong Robotics aims to achieve sales exceeding 100 billion KRW by 2029 by actively leveraging its business capabilities and market conditions.
Won Yoo-hyun, CEO of Daedong Mobility, said, “By establishing Daedong AI Lab and Daedong Robotics this year as specialized robotics companies, we have laid the foundation for ‘AI robotization of all Daedong Group products.’ We will first secure a solid competitive advantage in the global agricultural robot market and, based on this, expand the robotics industry ecosystem to grow into a global intelligent autonomous robotics company.”
