Association of Governors "Yoon's National Reform Needed... Han Party-Government Unity Must Be Focused"

The Council of Mayors of Metropolitan and Provincial Governments, composed of members from the People Power Party, urged President Yoon Seok-yeol and People Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon to change their attitudes.

In a statement released on the 3rd, the council said, "The opposition party, which has taken control of the National Assembly, is now attempting impeachment of the president without hesitation, causing public anxiety," and added, "In this situation, the conflict between the president and the ruling party leader, as well as discord within the party, is amplifying the concerns of party members and the public, weakening the momentum of state affairs and putting the ruling power in crisis."

Regarding Leader Han, the council requested, "We hope you will move away from the image of division and conflict perceived as a power struggle and focus your efforts on party-government unity and party cohesion," and "We ask you to actively engage in dialogue with the council."

The council emphasized that it will support major state tasks at the local government level and take the lead in restoring normal politics by uniting with all political forces within local governments.

The council said, "As the heads of local administrations who know public sentiment best and as senior politicians, the People Power Party mayors of metropolitan and provincial governments express their position to fulfill their responsibilities and roles in overcoming the crisis in Korean politics and restoring normal politics for the people."
