21 Charges of Sexual Crimes Against Indigenous Women and Girls
An American Native actor who appeared in the movie ‘Dances with Wolves’ has been indicted on charges of luring and sexually assaulting teenage girls for over 20 years.
According to Yonhap News Agency citing AP News on the 1st, Native American actor Nathan Chasing Horse (48, hereafter Chasing Horse) has been indicted on charges of repeatedly committing sexual crimes against Native women and girls.
According to the indictment released by the Clark County District Court in Nevada, Chasing Horse faces a total of 21 charges including rape, kidnapping, lewd acts, and production and possession of child sexual abuse material.
He was previously arrested by police near Las Vegas in January last year and subsequently indicted. However, due to procedural issues raised during the trial, the prosecution’s indictment was dismissed once, delaying the criminal trial schedule. At the time of arrest, police determined that Chasing Horse had been posing as a cult leader since the early 2000s and sexually assaulting Native teenage girls.
His activities spanned across North America, including Nevada, Montana, and South Dakota. In the revised indictment filed this time, additional charges include filming a scene of sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 14.
He is also suspected of taking minor girls aged only 15 to 16 as wives and facilitating prostitution. Prosecutors stated that the video, filmed in 2010 or 2011, was found on a cellphone stored in a safe at his home in Las Vegas.

Chasing Horse appeared in the 1990 American film ‘Dances with Wolves’ as a young warrior of the Sioux tribe. He is known for the role where he tearfully parts from Lieutenant John Dunbar, played by director and actor Kevin Costner, and returns the lieutenant’s diary, which was recovered from the white men’s possession.
In reality, he was born in the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota, the homeland of the Sioux tribe. The name ‘Chasing His Horse’ is also a Native term meaning ‘to chase a horse.’
AP recently reported that policymakers and prosecutors across the United States are allocating more resources to violent cases involving Native women, including human trafficking, murder, and sexual crimes.
