Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education and Teacher Organizations Collaborate on College Admission Reform Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education building.

The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education (Superintendent Lim Tae-hee) announced on the 1st that it held a council meeting with members of teacher organizations to discuss future college entrance exam reform plans aimed at restoring the essence of education.


The Office of Education has been emphasizing the need for future college entrance exam reform and maintaining various communications since the second half of this year. This council meeting was organized to share and communicate the direction of changes in college entrance exams with teacher organizations, strengthen cooperative relationships, and promote field-centered education policies.


Eleven teachers belonging to the Gyeonggi Teachers' Union, the Korean Teachers and Education Workers Union (Gyeonggi), the Gyeonggi Practical Education Teachers' Association, and the Good Teachers Movement (Gyeonggi) attended the meeting held on the 31st of last month. They pointed out problems with the current college entrance exam system and discussed together ▲ the proper direction of student evaluation ▲ the necessity of changing the College Scholastic Ability Test system ▲ and improvement plans for college entrance screening.


The attending teachers agreed that the current high school internal grade competition places excessive burdens on students, and that the College Scholastic Ability Test makes it difficult to cultivate competencies required by future society, such as creativity and problem-solving skills.


They also emphasized that changes in the college entrance exam system are necessary to normalize the curriculum and to ensure substantial operation of educational activities in the second semester of the third year of high school.


Kim Sung-jin, Director of Career and Vocational Education at the Office of Education, said, “We appreciate the efforts of all teachers who support students' dreams amid the changing educational environment,” and added, “We will continue to strive to make college entrance exams not just a means to achieve simple goals, but a stepping stone to help students grow.”
