Former People Power Party Lawmaker Kim Young-sik Appointed Chairman of the National Research Council of Science & Technology Kim Young-sik, New NST Chairman

Kim Young-sik, former member of the People Power Party and honorary professor at Kumoh National Institute of Technology, was appointed on the 1st as the 5th Chairman of the National Research Council of Science & Technology (NST), which supports and fosters 23 government-funded research institutes in the field of science and technology. Chairman Kim's term will be three years starting from November 4, 2024.


Chairman Kim graduated from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Yeungnam University and earned a master's degree in Applied Mechanics from the same university. He also holds a master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Iowa and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University in the United States.


He served as a senior researcher at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute, a professor at Kumoh National Institute of Technology, and a director at the Korea Institute of Startup & Entrepreneurship Development. From 2013 to 2017, he was the 6th president of Kumoh National Institute of Technology. Chairman Kim also served as a member of the National Assembly for the People Power Party (Gumi-eul) from 2020 to 2024, where he was the secretary of the National Assembly's Science, Technology, Information, Broadcasting and Communications Committee.
