Gwangju City Hosts the 29th Farmers' Day Commemorative Farmers' Conference

Gwangju City Hosts the 29th Farmers' Day Commemorative Farmers' Conference Gwangju City Hall in Gyeonggi Province.

On the 1st, Gwangju City in Gyeonggi Province held the "29th Farmers' Day" at Namjong-myeon Public Stadium with the slogan "Cherishing the Value of Agriculture, Enriching the Future of Rural Areas!" to commemorate the event and hosted the Gwangju Farmers' Convention.

Farmers' Day originated from the agricultural philosophy of "exploring the truth of soil, living with soil as a friend, and returning to soil," symbolized by the combination of the characters for ten (十) and one (一) forming the soil character (土), coinciding with the auspicious day 土月土日 (November 11).

The event was organized by the Gwangju City Agricultural Association Council (Chairman Lim Taegyun) and was successfully held with the participation of about 1,000 people, including Gwangju Mayor Bang Se-hwan, members of the National Assembly, the city council chairman, city council members, heads of various institutions, and farmers.

During the ceremony, awards and plaques of appreciation were presented to 24 individuals, including those who contributed to agricultural and rural development and outstanding farmers. Various events such as traditional folk games like Saekki-kko-gi (straw rope twisting), Yutnori (a traditional board game), Jegichagi (shuttlecock kicking), and farmers' talent shows were held to comfort and encourage the efforts of farmers and agricultural organizations who worked hard for agricultural development under difficult conditions.

Additionally, side events promoted and exhibited excellent agricultural and livestock products produced locally, highlighting the quality of Gwangju's agricultural products. The free tasting corner of Korean beef bulgogi operated by the Gwangju Livestock Cooperative and agricultural products directly processed by women's farmer groups and the Life Improvement Association received great responses from citizens attending the event.

A city official stated, "This meaningful event was an opportunity to encourage farmers facing difficulties such as aging, labor shortages, and income disparities, and to share the importance of agriculture and rural areas, allowing farmers to unite and communicate."
