Yeoncheon County in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 1st that on the 31st of last month, Kang Jeong-ae, Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, along with a veterans diplomacy group composed of university students, visited the Yeoncheon UN Forces Crematorium to commemorate the sacrifices made during the Korean War.

The Yeoncheon area was a fierce battleground for hill battles such as the Battle of Hook Goji and the Battle of Pokchap Hill during the Korean War. The UN Forces Crematorium, built in 1952 in Dong-ri, Misan-myeon, Yeoncheon County, Gyeonggi Province, was established to cremate UN soldiers who died in battle.
Currently, this site was designated as a national heritage (1 building / 1,596㎡) in 2008, and in 2013, it was also designated as a memorial facility by the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs for preservation.
Kim Deok-hyun, the governor of Yeoncheon County, said, “The UN Forces Crematorium is not only significant as a Korean War relic but also valuable as a facility to honor the fallen UN soldiers. I would like to thank Minister Kang Jeong-ae of the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs and all members of the veterans diplomacy group for visiting Yeoncheon County.”
Kang Jeong-ae, Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, stated, “The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs will do its best to establish a living culture of patriotism so that all citizens, including the younger generation, can remember the war heroes and express their gratitude in their daily lives.”
