A famous Brazilian influencer with 180,000 followers expressed frustration, saying she was kicked out of a gym for wearing revealing workout clothes.
According to the British media outlet 'The Mirror' on the 29th (local time), Brazilian woman Jessica Freitas (33) was recently working out at a gym wearing a black sports bra and pink knee-length leggings.
Suddenly, a gym staff member approached her and bluntly said, "Other people are uncomfortable because of your revealing clothes," and asked her to leave the gym. Freitas posted a photo of the workout clothes she was wearing at the time, complaining, "I was not naked. I was just wearing the same clothes as other gym users."
She continued, "At that time, there were many people exercising in shorts and bra tops besides me. But the staff only asked me to leave." She expressed anger, saying, "I did not record videos or behave in a way that made other gym users uncomfortable. The staff discriminated against only me."
Reactions from netizens who saw Freitas's post were divided. Comments ranged from "There is nothing wrong with that outfit," "Kicked out just for wearing leggings?" "That's ridiculous," and "Wearing leggings is a personal freedom," to "Why come to the gym dressed like that?" "It's embarrassing to see," "It looks uncomfortable," and "Do you want attention?"
"Embarrassing to see" vs "Personal freedom"... Ongoing Leggings Debate
Wearing leggings is a frequent topic of debate online. Recently in South Korea, a female elementary school teacher wearing leggings at a sports day event sparked heated discussions online. At that time, one netizen pointed out, "It's inappropriate to wear tight-fitting leggings when there are children around." On the other hand, another netizen responded, "Leggings are worn because they are comfortable for exercise," and "What clothes one wears is a personal freedom."
In March, actress Jeon Jong-seo threw the first pitch wearing leggings at the MLB World Tour Seoul Series held at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul, sparking controversy. Netizens' opinions were divided between comments like "It was too embarrassing to see with children," "Please consider the viewers' eyes," and "Is this the Joseon Dynasty?" "She looks healthy and it’s good," "Clothing is a personal freedom."
