The 2024 Guryongpo Marine Gourmet Festival 'Market Pier Nine' will be held every weekend (Saturday and Sunday) from November 2 to December 15 (closed on November 16 and 17 for the Gwamegi Festival) around Ara Square in Guryongpo, Pohang City. The operating hours are from 4 PM to 10 PM.
Hosted by Pohang City and organized by the Pohang Cultural Foundation, this festival is the nation's first pier night market. After a pilot operation last year and an event in April this year, it will be held for the third time on a grander scale, allowing visitors to directly experience the evolving culture of Guryongpo.
This Market Pier Nine plans to offer tourists visiting Guryongpo a unique sensory experience with the romantic night view of Guryongpo and even more diverse gourmet content and programs.
At the festival, visitors can enjoy various gourmet experiences suitable for all ages, including the Haenyeo’s Table featuring fresh seafood from Guryongpo, food booths operated by local autonomous groups, and dozens of food trucks offering a variety of trendy menus.
In addition to the abundant and attractive food options, various entertainment activities will provide visitors with special experiences. Every Saturday during the festival, special performances by invited singers, regular busking performances by local artists, and participatory events to boost the atmosphere will take place around Ara Square.
Notably, on November 9, a celebratory stage featuring singer Lee Chan-won and Risene will be held, along with diverse performances by artists affiliated with the Pohang Music Association. Following this, special performances by popular singers will be held every Saturday in succession.
A representative from the Pohang Cultural Foundation stated, “We have prepared unique programs that blend Guryongpo’s tradition with a modern sensibility so that people of all ages can feel the charm of Guryongpo. We hope visitors come to enjoy the taste and style of Guryongpo and experience the various nearby tourist resources. We aim to make this a representative festival and permanent market where local residents and tourists can enjoy together and coexist.”
Meanwhile, Market Pier Nine is a pier night market and marine gourmet festival held at the Guryongpo pier. It began as part of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s ‘Planned Contest-type Regional Tourism Development Project’ and is recognized as an excellent case of active local resident participation and operation of unique Guryongpo content.
