Seodaemun-gu Local Tax Research Club... 5 Consecutive Years of National Competition Awards

‘Seodaemun Sense(稅)ation’ Team Wins Encouragement Award
Presentation of Rational Improvement Plans Focused on Tax Relief for Homeless

Seodaemun-gu Local Tax Research Club... 5 Consecutive Years of National Competition Awards Seongheon Lee, Mayor of Seodaemun District. Provided by Seodaemun District Office.

The local tax research club for public officials in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, the ‘Seodaemun Sense(稅)ation’ team, won the Encouragement Award at the ‘2024 National Local Tax Research Club Excellent Thesis Presentation Contest’ hosted by the Korea Local Tax Research Institute.

According to Seodaemun-gu on the 1st, the Seodaemun Sense(稅)ation team presented this year on ‘Rational Improvement Measures Shifting from Rental Housing Tax Reduction to Tax Reduction for the Homeless,’ earning the honor of winning at the national contest for the fifth consecutive year. The team also set a record of winning at the national contest for five consecutive years, receiving the Grand Prize in 2020, the Progress Award in 2021, the Grand Prize in 2022, the Excellence Award in 2023, and now the Encouragement Award.

At the presentation contest, the Sense(稅)ation team proposed a ‘rational tax system improvement plan that supports ordinary citizens and revitalizes the housing construction market by expanding tax reductions focused on the homeless who are actual demanders rather than repeatedly expanding rental housing tax reductions.’ This was highly evaluated as a measure to reduce rental fraud and revitalize the housing construction market amid a significant downturn in the housing construction market caused by the aftermath of rental fraud and housing market stagnation.

Lee Seong-heon, the district mayor, said, “Last year, I urged active support to protect and prevent victims of rental fraud, and I greatly encourage the ‘Seodaemun-gu Local Tax Research Club’ for researching national issues and seeking solutions,” adding, “Please continue to strive to discover local tax payment convenience policies and improve systems.”

The award ceremony was held on the 24th of last month at the Korea Local Tax Research Institute in Yangjae-dong, Seoul. The local tax research projects of the winning teams in this presentation contest are planned to be used as institutional improvement tasks by government-related ministries such as the Ministry of the Interior and Safety in the future.
