Songpa-gu Union and Others Rearrange Existing Spaces for Efficient Use of Building
Songpa-gu Union Names New Office 'The, Gonggam'... Preparing a New Start for Staff
Songpa-gu (District Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced on the 1st that, in cooperation with the Songpa-gu branch of the National Public Officials Labor Union, the union office located in the district office has been renovated and will be provided as an open space for employees and residents.
The Songpa-gu government building, having been constructed 37 years ago, lacked idle space, causing significant inconvenience to visiting residents and employees. In particular, there were limited spaces for small meetings, communication, and breaks.
To address this, the district negotiated with the Songpa-gu union in May this year and initiated the creation of new spaces through the relocation and rearrangement of the union office.
The Songpa-gu union office, which was on the 10th floor of the district office building, was renovated into an open space called ‘The Lounge,’ and the Songpa-gu union relocated its office to the space previously used by the Seoul Metropolitan Government Labor Union Songpa branch on the same floor. The Seoul Metropolitan Government Labor Union also utilized idle space on the same floor to newly set up and move their office.
‘The Lounge’ is a seminar room measuring 90㎡ (27 pyeong). Opened on July 19, it is equipped with a large LED display and state-of-the-art sound equipment. It is used for various group meetings, department meetings, and during idle times, it serves as a resting area where employees can comfortably have meals and drinks.
The new Songpa-gu union office held its opening ceremony on October 31. It transformed from a limited space primarily used by union staff to a space where any union member can comfortably use. Reflecting the new direction of the Songpa-gu union preparing for a fresh start, it was named ‘The, Gonggam’ (The, Empathy).
The office, measuring 56㎡ (17 pyeong), is equipped not only with workspaces but also with two massage chairs, camping chairs, and tables. In a warm atmosphere, any employee can relieve work fatigue and rest. The Songpa-gu union also provides camping site reservation and equipment rental services for employees.
A union official stated, “Taking this office renovation as an opportunity, we will strive to closely communicate with the district office and represent the rights and happiness of employees as well as union members.”
The district explained that this space rearrangement is a valuable outcome created by Seo Gang-seok, the Songpa-gu mayor, and district office employees who have worked hard over the past two years to establish a cooperative labor-management relationship.
Mayor Seo Gang-seok said, “The newly created space symbolizes a fresh start for the Songpa-gu union, which prioritizes employees,” and added, “Going forward, we will work together with the union to improve the rigid organizational culture and create a work environment that satisfies employees, ensuring that ‘servant administration’ continues.”
