Gyeongju Technical High School Designated as Semiconductor Meister High School... Opening in March 2026, Recruiting 64 Students

The Gyeongbuk Office of Education (Superintendent Lim Jong-sik) announced on the 31st that Gyeongju Technical High School has been designated as a Ministry of Education Industry-Demand Customized High School (Meister High School) and will begin nurturing specialized talent in the advanced semiconductor industry sector.

Gyeongju Technical High School will align with the government's semiconductor industry promotion strategy, the K-Semiconductor Strategy (including the Ministry of Education's semiconductor talent development plan and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's expansion of core technologies for materials, parts, and equipment), as well as Gyeongbuk Province's semiconductor industry super-gap development plan through the G-Semiconductor Strategy (including the Gyeongbuk Province Ordinance on Semiconductor Industry Promotion and Support and the designation of the Gumi Semiconductor Specialized Complex). The school will cultivate talent in semiconductor manufacturing and equipment fields and link this to employment opportunities.

To this end, starting this year, preparations are underway for organizing a semiconductor convergence curriculum, remodeling practice labs and establishing equipment, remodeling dormitories, and establishing the K-Semiconductor Hall, with the goal of opening on March 1, 2026. Freshmen will be recruited nationwide for a single department in semiconductor convergence, consisting of four classes totaling 64 students (16 students per class, coeducational).

This project will receive a total budget of 29 billion KRW, including 5 billion KRW from the Ministry of Education, 20.8 billion KRW from the Office of Education, 1.2 billion KRW from Gyeongbuk Provincial Government, and 2 billion KRW from Gyeongju City, supporting a stable transition and operation as a semiconductor Meister High School.

Additionally, through agreements with 54 companies such as SK Siltron and Wonik, 11 related organizations including the Gumi Semiconductor Specialized Complex Promotion Team and POSTECH Nano Convergence Technology Institute, and Gyeongju City Hall, a regional industry-academia cooperation system will be established to link semiconductor talent development with employment.

The curriculum is designed to reflect semiconductor industry demand by conducting surveys and consultations with relevant companies, structured into stages of basic major, practical major, and advanced major courses. Project-based learning methods will be actively introduced to cultivate field-ready semiconductor manufacturing production technicians and experts in semiconductor equipment operation and maintenance.

Lim Jong-sik, Superintendent of Gyeongbuk Office of Education, stated, “We will actively support Gyeongju Technical High School in nurturing advanced industry talent as a semiconductor Meister High School and producing practical professionals tailored to industry needs, thereby contributing to enhancing the competitiveness of the national semiconductor industry.”
