Buyeo County: "We Will Do Our Best for Preservation, Management, and Utilization"
Buyeo County in South Chungcheong Province announced on the 31st that the Seokseong Dongheon Trifoliate Orange Tree has been designated as a Natural Monument.
The Trifoliate Orange Tree is believed to have been transplanted around the time the Seokseong Dongheon was built during the Joseon Dynasty (1628), and has been growing for approximately 400 years.
Additionally, as the tree is planted in the front yard of the Dongheon, it serves as evidence of the historical punishment known as Wiri Anchi, which was practiced during the Joseon Dynasty, thus holding significant historical value.
Currently, there are only three Trifoliate Orange Trees designated as Natural Monuments in Korea, making this tree botanically rare, in good condition, and highly valued for its scenic beauty.
An official from the county stated, "The fact that the Trifoliate Orange Tree, representing Buyeo and Seokseong-myeon, has been so well preserved and designated as a Natural Monument is thanks to the dedication and efforts of the local residents of Seokseong-myeon." The official added, "The county will work closely with the National Heritage Administration and local residents to do our utmost in preserving, managing, and utilizing the Trifoliate Orange Tree."
