Chinese National Male Arrested on Arson Charges
"I'm Moving Tomorrow, Give Me the Deposit"
Crime Committed While Drunk After Argument with Landlord
A Chinese national tenant who suddenly demanded a security deposit set fire to a vehicle after arguing with the landlord.
On the 29th, JTBC's 'Incident Commander' reported on an arson incident that occurred at a multi-family house in Anyang-si, Gyeonggi Province. Informant A stated that they run a convenience store near the fire scene with their spouse and said, "My husband witnessed the fire around 9:30 PM on the 28th and extinguished it himself with a fire extinguisher."
The released closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showed a man, Mr. B, standing in front of the vehicle, followed by flames suddenly erupting from the car. Mr. B, identified as the arsonist and a Chinese national, had abruptly demanded the landlord, "I will move out tomorrow, so give me the security deposit," about a month ago. This led to an argument with the landlord, and despite having already moved out, he set fire to the landlord's vehicle while intoxicated.
Following the vehicle arson, Mr. B also set fire to his current residence, which is unrelated to the landlord. Fortunately, no casualties occurred. He fled on the day of the incident but was arrested by the police and admitted to most of the charges. It was confirmed that Mr. B was already wanted for other criminal charges. The police are currently investigating the detailed circumstances of the case.
