Yeosu City Selected for 'AI Autonomous Manufacturing Leading Project' Competition

Secured 8.5 Billion KRW in National Funding... Data Analysis and Carbon Emission Reduction
Combining AI with Manufacturing Processes to Achieve Advanced Production and Automation

Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) announced on the 30th that it has secured 8.5 billion KRW in national funding after being selected for the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's 'AI Autonomous Manufacturing Leading Project' in the petrochemical sector.

The 'AI Autonomous Manufacturing Leading Project' aims to integrate AI into the manufacturing processes of 12 key industries including petrochemicals, automobiles, and semiconductors to achieve advanced production and automation. The total project cost is approximately 20.1 billion KRW, including 8.5 billion KRW in national funding and 850 million KRW in local government funds.

GS Caltex Corporation, which collaborated in this competition, will be responsible for developing and demonstrating the AI autonomous manufacturing platform. Using the established platform, data from all manufacturing processes will be analyzed to control production under optimal conditions and ratios, reducing production energy consumption and thereby lowering carbon dioxide emissions.

Additionally, support will be provided to transfer technology so that small and medium-sized petrochemical companies in the Yeosu National Industrial Complex can apply the AI-based autonomous manufacturing platform, generating high expectations for creating an eco-friendly industrial complex environment.

A city official stated, "Due to international circumstances and changes in industrial conditions, the refining and petrochemical industries are experiencing a downturn, making strong structural improvements necessary to overcome this. We will succeed in this project to maximize the productivity of the Yeosu National Industrial Complex and establish a breakthrough to overcome the crisis."

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy plans to promote 200 leading projects by 2027 to expand 'AI autonomous manufacturing' among companies, designating 26 leading projects this year to launch the first pilot projects.
